Accreditations
Prairie View Montessori is committed to excellence in all we do. We seek to maintain the highest standards in our programs, our service and our staff. Because the word Montessori is in the public domain, one way to determine an authentic Montessori school is by checking to see if it is affiliated with one of the certifying organizations. These are the American Montessori Society (AMS) or the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI).
Prairie View Montessori is a member and Full Affiliate of AMS. AMS requires its member schools to have “Montessori credentialed teachers in their classrooms, a full complement of Montessori materials, an ‘open door’ policy for visitors, periodic visits from Montessori specialists, copies of all licenses, and [adherence to] the AMS Code of Professional Ethics.”
As a new school we are working towards “accredited” status with AMS (the highest level of accreditation). We are also pursuing accreditation with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the American Camping Association (ACA) for our Summer Splash! program. We are registered as a non-public school with the Illinois State Board of Education.
AMS Code of Professional Ethics (excerpt)
“As American Montessori Society Members, we pledge to conduct ourselves professionally and personally in ways that will reflect our respect for each other and for the children we serve. We will do whatever is within our talents and capacity to protect the rights of each child to have the freedom and opportunity to develop his full potential.”
