About Prairie View Montessori

History

Prairie View Montessori is the realization of a dream to build an authentic Montessori Children’s House for the Aurora – Naperville area, custom-designed for children and built from the ground up in a serene environment!

Building a new school is an enormous collaborative undertaking. As plans for Prairie View progressed, a team approach quickly developed as the method of choice for making decisions. This extended in every direction. Faculty members from other schools, parents, and even former Montessori students were consulted regarding what they would like to see in a “new school” and how best the needs of children, parents, and staff could be balanced.

This philosophical beginning helped clarify the priorities and mission statement of the school. It was decided to associate with the American Montessori Society and to immediately work towards their highest form of accreditation, as well as that of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). With these underpinnings in place, the staff committed themselves to working towards excellence in every area to ensure that Prairie View Montessori becomes and stays a very special place.

Philosophy and Goals

At Prairie View Montessori we believe that all children should have the opportunity to fully develop their potential. We also feel that education is most effective when it follows children’s development and when children are active participants in their learning, not passive recipients. Parents, teachers and community members must work together to accomplish this. To this end, we have built a Montessori Children’s House.

Our first priority at Prairie View is to serve the children. Their needs are paramount. Within the context of serving the children, we are also here to support their families. All individuals at Prairie View Montessori, children, parents, and staff are recognized and celebrated for their uniqueness and diversity and treated with respect.

We need and anticipate a high level of input and involvement from families since our partnership is integral to our success. Children are the generation of the future and they need a good start! Prairie View Montessori is a place where they can enjoy a rich and fulfilling learning experience.
